Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) Programme

QLTT Assessment

The QLTT assessments comprise of six papers and one oral examination in Professional Conduct. (Depending on their home qualification, certain applicants may have exemptions from all or some of these subjects). The purpose of the assessments is to ensure that all candidates who qualify as solicitors have the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to perform their role competently and ethically.

City Colleges Dublin recognises that those who come on our QLTT Preparatory Course will already be qualified lawyers in other jurisdictions. We have therefore created an executive online offering of classes for the modern busy lawyer, coupled with subject-specific manuals to ensure your success in these examinations, however many subjects you need to sit.

The Test

This examination is offered by the Law Society twice every year usually in June/July and October/November. Each examination paper may comprise problem or essay-type questions or a combination of both. The pass mark for each examination is 50%. Every candidate for the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test must first obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from the Education Committee to sit the Test. The Education Committee will also determine on receipt of the appropriate application form and documentation, what subject or subjects the applicant is required to take.

The Executive programme includes comprehensive manuals for each subject and continuous online access to course tutors for queries and/or corrections.

Constitutional Law & Electives – Criminal Law or Company Law – 2.5 hours per subject (5 hours per paper)

Probate & Taxation – 2.5 hours per subject (5 hours per paper)

Solicitors Accounts – 2.5 hours per subject (2.5 hours per paper)

European Union Law – 4 hours (4 hours)

Oral Examination

QLTT Platinum Programme

This QLTT Programme is designed for candidates who require a more in-depth programme of study. In addition to Executive Programme material, candidates also receive between 30 and 60 FE1 video lecture hours for Papers 1-4. The substantive course topics are dealt with in detail in these lectures.

Students who enrol on this programme receive all content from the Executive Programme (above) PLUS:
