BA Hons. Early Childhood Studies, UDL Badge
With over 25 years of dedicated service in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector, I bring a wealth of experience spanning birth to school-age care, inclusive education, and adult training. My career began at the inception of Ireland’s Early Learning and Care (ELC) framework, and I have since worked across all age groups from 0 to 6 years, as well as in School-Aged Childcare settings.
I have implemented and supported a variety of pedagogical approaches including Montessori, HighScope, Steiner, and Play-Based learning. I am a passionate advocate for Play-Based methodologies, firmly believing in their developmental benefits for young children and their role in fostering creativity, autonomy, and emotional wellbeing.
My leadership experience includes senior management and HR roles in large-scale ELC centres, where I oversaw operations, staff development, and quality assurance. Transitioning into adult education, I have spent the past decade tutoring part-time with Progressive College, delivering modules in Special Needs Assisting (SNA) and Early Learning & Care at QQI Levels 5 and 6.
Currently, I lecture on the Certificate in Special Needs Education (QQI Level 7), supporting learners in deepening their understanding of inclusive practice and legislation. I also serve as Academic Coordinator for a Local Training Initiative in County Roscommon, where I oversee full-time programmes in Information Technology, Business Administration, and Early Learning & Care at Levels 4 and 5.
My approach to tutoring is learner-centred, inclusive, and grounded in real-world practice. I strive to empower future educators and support staff with the knowledge, empathy, and confidence to create meaningful learning environments for all children
