Module Details

Minimum Intended Learning Outcomes (MIMLOS)

On completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Outline the role of information security in Cybersecurity
Apply system performance models to various scenarios
Describe the micro and macro information technology environment
Explain the role of governments in this industry
Discuss the main cybersecurity issues and challenges facing the Irish information technology industry

Assessments / Exams

The Computer and Information Systems Security module is assessed via one 40% continuous assessment and 60% Proctored Written Examination.

The examination will be a two-hour examination and will include three questions. Learners must attempt all three questions. Each question will be graded out of 100%. Examination scripts will be annotated to highlight where marks have been allocated, areas of good work and areas that should have been developed in more detail.

Learners will receive feedback on each assessment in fulfilment of programme learning outcome PLO 7.

Reassessment Opportunity

Where the combined marks of the assessment and examination do not reach the pass mark the learner will be required to repeat the element of assessment that they failed. Reassessment materials will be published on Moodle after the Examination Board Meeting and will be aligned to the MIMLOs and learners will be capped at 40% unless there are personal mitigating circumstances.
