The module enabled learners to engage with key ICT Fundamental concepts with the overall purpose to provide them with broad basic skills that can be applied to understanding the discourse of the ICT business world in a variety of business contexts.

The content is aimed at creating a relationship with other modules. The objective is the ICT module is not seen as a module in isolation but one that has clear relationships with other BA(hons) Business modules. Learners will be provided with a broad understanding of ICT as it applies to contemporary business.

Module Details

Minimum Intended Learning Outcomes (MIMLOS)

On completion of this module learners will have been enabled to:

Examine the emergences of ICT & Fundamentals of ICT Architecture;
Apply basic knowledge in the selection of current ICT tools, concepts and theories to contemporary business contexts including elements such as Practical ICT statistical analysis;
Assess current and emerging trends across a wide variety of elements of the ICT;
Produce, access and submit documents through Moodle, formatting and presentation of documents.

The IT Essentials module will be assessed via a 40% Proctored Written Examination and 60% Continuous Assessment.

Reassessment Opportunity

Where the combined marks of the assessment and examination do not reach the pass mark the learner will be required to repeat the element of assessment that they failed. Reassessment materials will be published on Moodle after the Examination Board Meeting and will be aligned to the MIMLOs and learners will be capped at 40% unless there are personal mitigating circumstances.

Arturo Vázquez Zepeda is an IT professional with over 20 years of experience across cloud infrastructure and automation, identity and access management, networking, and cybersecurity, alongside experience designing and delivering postgraduate modules in higher education. His recent work includes infrastructure-as-code automation on Terraform across Azure, GCP and VMware, zero-trust IAM rollouts, and applied AI, reflected in certifications spanning Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, VMware Certified Advanced Professional, and Google’s Generative AI Leader.

He holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science & Telecommunications, an MBA in Cloud Computing, an M.Ed. in Education and Technological Leadership, and a B.Eng. in Computer Systems, along with AHEAD Ireland’s Digital Accessibility Master Badge, and builds every module around Universal Design for Learning and WCAG 2.1 principles.
