The introduces students to foundational principles and practices of effective management within diverse organisational contexts. Covering core topics such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, the module emphasises strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills essential for future managers. Students explore leadership styles, team dynamics, motivation theories, and change management techniques, with a focus on adapting to today’s rapidly evolving business environment. Through case studies and collaborative projects, this module prepares students to manage resources, lead teams, and make informed decisions, building a strong foundation for future roles in management.

The origins of management theory (Classical theorists).

Business Environment

Managing inter departmental relationships.
External environment and its impact on management.
Political, Legal, Social, Economical environments and their impact on organisations.

Explain key management functions, concepts and techniques and their role in organisational efficiency;
Discuss the evolution of management theory and its role in the management of operations in the modern business;
Apply management concepts, techniques to a variety of business related contexts;
Assess the importance of the business environment and how social, economic and political issues affect business

This module will be assessed via 100% Continuous Assessment.

Reassessment Opportunity

Where the combined marks of the assessment and examination do not reach the pass mark the learner will be required to repeat the element of assessment that they failed. Reassessment materials will be published on Moodle after the Examination Board Meeting and will be aligned to the MIMLOs and learners will be capped at 40% unless there are personal mitigating circumstances.
